Newsletter November 2007

Welcome

We hope November finds you all well. Only another month stands between you and that well deserved Christmas break... it just so happens that it’s probably the busiest month of the year! They’re already assembling the massive Ferris Wheel and other rides along Princes Street and the temperature is a consistent ‘baltic’... and that’s just our office! It’s round about now that you appreciate spending the equivalent of a mortgage on that winter coat. And have you even thought about presents yet? Christmas cards? The inevitable ‘mess’ that is the office party? No? Don’t worry, it’s the time of peace and goodwill, lap it up while you can. Last one to the photocopier’s a rotten egg!

Christmas Cards!

Following on from the great feedback of last year's range of exclusive festive card designs, we thought we'd do the same this year. As well as some of our own new designs, we've teamed up with Edinburgh's Telford College’s emerging talent and selected some of the best illustrations to include in our range.

Send your clients your personal best wishes with a festive card from our exclusive collection, while supporting the Children of Songea Trust. 10% of every sale goes to this worthy cause. Each card is full colour on the outside, with your colour logo on the back and your message in grey on the inside and includes white envelopes to match.

Ordering from our range couldn't be easier, simply follow these easy steps:

• choose a design from the collection
• state how many you want
• email us your logo & message you want on the inside!

Costs include artworking your chosen design, logo and message into our template, printing, matching envelopes and delivery, i.e everything!

News

This month we’ve mostly been... Waseem has just become a new dad! Baby Ibrahim said hallo 3 weeks ago with a mop of jet black hair and Waseem has been walking on cloud 9 ever since. We’re so chuffed for him and his lovely wife Shazia; Julie can’t believe it’s November already and that the dreaded C is almost upon us and the shops are heaving. She’s won a nice wee jaunt to Bruge from a prize draw and is looking forward to buying lots of doilies and chocolate for everyone; Lewis has been turning his hand to plumbing, managed to rip out a bath, toilet and sink, but can't remember how to put them back in; Inspired by Ewan and Charlie, Steven is determined to get a motorbike license. He has signed up for a taster lesson and can’t wait to terrorise the suburban streets. Julie has vowed never to go on the back...Chicken!

Wallace & Gromit

We’ve been doing plenty of online design recently, for both brochure and e-commerce sites. Our echo package is proving a bit of a hit, so if you, or someone you know wants their e-marketing to look as pretty as ours does with a great, functioning website to boot, do pass on our details and/or let Julie know at julie@39stepsstudio.com,
tel: +44 (0)131 220 3851.

Thank you!

Thank you to everyone who took the time to visit our stand at the Business 2 Business show last month. It was a pleasure to meet you all and we hope you enjoyed your visit! Much business and networking was conducted as well as Julie delivering a seminar on Small Business, Big Ambitions which went down a storm.

We’re delighted to announce that as part of our exhibition prize draw Mr Stephen Fox is the winner of a pop-up banner for his business Panliska, designed and produced by 39steps. Well done!

Hot off the press

Pebbles is a design led boutique, which sources interesting jewellery from forward thinking British and European designers. 39steps was appointed by Pebbles to design and produce a mini brochure to raise awareness of their brand and product range amongst potential and existing customers in the run up to Christmas. We recommended a compact roll fold brochure, printed on a high-quality uncoated paper stock. This tactile format allowed Pebbles to display a large range of stunning, contemporary jewellery, in a cost-effective, space-efficient layout, more likely to be retained and passed on. The roll-fold promotes an air of mystery as the content gradually unveils from the moody and intriguing cover. We chose the theme of pebbles among calm, rippling water to evoke a classy but edgy feel, in-keeping with the products displayed.

Ultramarine

and some more
ULTRAMARINE – EVERY MAN AND WOMAN IS A STAR
Back in 1991 Ultramarine released their masterpiece ‘Every Man And Woman Is A Star’ to widespread critical acclaim. Labelled as ‘pastoral techno’ (although very much with its foot in the ambient house field) it’s a shining example of what makes the electronica genre so special. Dreamy breaks, sparkling sequencers, looping pianos and glimmering samples, it’s a heady mix creating a fantastically beautiful album that only grows warmer with every listen. It’s difficult to pick out standout tracks as each are equally sublime but you can’t fail to be mesmerised by ‘Canoe Trip’ a stellar piece of ambience painting pictures of shimmering stars and bubbling rivers. The sleevenotes sum it up perfectly: "Music for the mind floats you gently downstream, through pleasurable twists and turns". With ‘Every Man And Woman Is A Star’ Ultramarine created one of the warmest, infectious, most organic-sounding pieces of electronica, that is infused with good vibes and weird enchantment. As the nights grow darker and colder, what more encouragement do you need to stick this on and transport yourself back to warmer summers.
