We hope November finds you all well. Only another month stands between you and that well deserved Christmas break... it just so happens that it’s probably the busiest month of the year! They’re already assembling the massive Ferris Wheel and other rides along Princes Street and the temperature is a consistent ‘baltic’... and that’s just our office! It’s round about now that you appreciate spending the equivalent of a mortgage on that winter coat. And have you even thought about presents yet? Christmas cards? The inevitable ‘mess’ that is the office party? No? Don’t worry, it’s the time of peace and goodwill, lap it up while you can. Last one to the photocopier’s a rotten egg!

This month we’ve mostly been... Waseem has just become a new dad! Baby Ibrahim said hallo 3 weeks ago with a mop of jet black hair and Waseem has been walking on cloud 9 ever since. We’re so chuffed for him and his lovely wife Shazia; Julie can’t believe it’s November already and that the dreaded C is almost upon us and the shops are heaving. She’s won a nice wee jaunt to Bruge from a prize draw and is looking forward to buying lots of doilies and chocolate for everyone; Lewis has been turning his hand to plumbing, managed to rip out a bath, toilet and sink, but can't remember how to put them back in; Inspired by Ewan and Charlie, Steven is determined to get a motorbike license. He has signed up for a taster lesson and can’t wait to terrorise the suburban streets. Julie has vowed never to go on the back...Chicken!

We’ve been doing plenty of online design recently, for both brochure and e-commerce sites. Our echo package is proving a bit of a hit, so if you, or someone you know wants their e-marketing to look as pretty as ours does with a great, functioning website to boot, do pass on our details and/or let Julie know at julie@39stepsstudio.com,

ULTRAMARINE – EVERY MAN AND WOMAN IS A STAR
Back in 1991 Ultramarine released their masterpiece ‘Every Man And Woman Is A Star’ to widespread critical acclaim. Labelled as ‘pastoral techno’ (although very much with its foot in the ambient house field) it’s a shining example of what makes the electronica genre so special. Dreamy breaks, sparkling sequencers, looping pianos and glimmering samples, it’s a heady mix creating a fantastically beautiful album that only grows warmer with every listen. It’s difficult to pick out standout tracks as each are equally sublime but you can’t fail to be mesmerised by ‘Canoe Trip’ a stellar piece of ambience painting pictures of shimmering stars and bubbling rivers. The sleevenotes sum it up perfectly: "Music for the mind floats you gently downstream, through pleasurable twists and turns". With ‘Every Man And Woman Is A Star’ Ultramarine created one of the warmest, infectious, most organic-sounding pieces of electronica, that is infused with good vibes and weird enchantment.
As the nights grow darker and colder, what more encouragement do you need to stick this on and transport yourself back to warmer summers.
