As sure as night follows day, you know you’re hurtling towards the end of the year when October comes around. But we can seek solace in the fact that we get an extra hour in bed when the clocks go back... hurrah! And then that small crumb of comfort is cruelly taken away when you remember that you’ve got guisers to look forward to at Halloween... long gone are the days when penny chews were considered to be the currency of choice for trick-or-treaters, nowadays it’s cold hard cash (preferably notes) or you can say goodbye to your windows! Oh and don’t forget, you’ll be able to enjoy an orchestra of mini-rockets, roman candles and 200 round shots being set off every night as you try and nod off as of about now... did I mention that extra hour of sleep?

This month we’ve mostly been... Julie purchased her first homes and interiors mag and is feeling all grown up deciding on flock v stripy wallpaper; Lewis has been preparing his flat for sale, busily correcting some minor DIY disasters; Steven has spent his evenings shivering in front of the telly, watching The Restaurant, wondering what Raymond Blanc would make of his nutritional diet of McCain Home Fries with HP sauce. The new fireplace he ordered 3 months ago shows no sign of arrival, in spite of being due 2 weeks ago. Could be a chilly winter ahead; Waseem has bought an Arsenal baby kit for the due-anytime-now nipper, much to the annoyance of his Man Utd supporting wife. He can currently be found gloating.

As it’s coming up to exhibition time, we’d love to speak to decision makers who’re showcasing their services at trade fairs or business exhibitions before the end of the year. We can help create a stunning stand, full of impact with great banners, magic brochures and quirky giveaways, helping to ensure your business name stays front-of-mind. If you, or someone you know fits the bill, do pass on our details and/or let Julie know at julie@39stepsstudio.com,

GLOBAL COMMUNICATION – 76:14
Every once in a while an album comes along that quite literally engulfs you with its emotional depth, stripping away any world-weary cynicism and takes you back to an almost womb-like state of being. Quite a statement but if you’ve heard Global Communication’s masterpiece that is 76:14 you’ll know what I mean. Released in 1994 and considered by many to be one of the truly great albums of the past 20 years this gem is faultless. None of the tracks are given names, but are simply given a number which is also the length of each track, the album title being the sum of its track times. This is to keep the listener from having any preconcieved imagery in their mind while listening to the music. They can then form their own images and associations with the music, allowing it to be a truly personal experience. From the opening ambient swirls, through landscapes of ticking clocks, hypnotic keys and lush synths the album works listened to as a whole taking you on an audio journey like no other. The final track (12’18) completes the journey as we’re welcomed by the sound of a choir of angels to a heavenly state of electronic bliss. Genuinely warm, emotional, reflective and moving there are few albums as beautiful as 76:14.
