Euro 2008!!!
Only a couple of days to go now till Euro 2008 and if you’re passionate about your football like me then you’ll be counting down the hours till kick-off. It’s strange but the Euros, like the World Cup, seem to have a strange effect in that they instill some sort of spark in people. Whether it’s the big game atmospheres, big name players, the drama, the tension, whatever, even getting behind countries you’d normally never think twice about, there’s just something unexplainable that kicks in and has us pining for kick-off in the match between the tournaments no-hopers. And you can be assured that it’ll be the dullest match you’ve ever seen (see Switzerland vs Ukraine, 2006 World Cup) but you’ll still lap it up. Why? Because you’ve waited 4 years for it, and of course it fills the gap nicely between the close season. So on to Saturday 5pm when hosts Switzerland will be kicking off against the Czech Republic. My money’s on the Czech’s in this game, recently beating Scotland in a friendly they showed flashes of brilliance and underlined why they’re a lot of peoples dark horses. And later that night is the mouth-watering prospect of Portugal vs Turkey. A tough one to call as both are good attacking teams but could swing Portugal’s way if Ronaldo’s on form. Let the games begin!
