Italian thoroughbred for donkey money
You’ve heard it all before, right? “You can get a second hand Ferrari for the same price as Ford Mondeo!” exclaims the balding, middle-aged pub expert.”Yeah, right!” you think. Sure you can buy it for cheap, but it’s gonna cost you a ferkin’ fortune to keep. And you’d be right! But who cares. Back in the nineties, when I was a skiving student, the car I lusted after most was the Ferrari 456 gt. It was everything I’d ever wanted in a car. A modern Daytona with some extra seats, so you could cram some student mates in and scare them to death! Unfortunately, even back in 1994 the 456 was a bit pricey at £130,000ish. Student loans weren’t quite that generous!
But now you can get a nice one of these for less than £30k! It wouldn’t be a purchase to be taken on lightly, with an annual service and general maintenance budget of around £3,000 a year, if you don’t use it much. But what a car to own, even just to look at. To my mind it is the last truly beautiful Pininfarina designed Ferrari! Elegant, with a hint of aggression. Then there’s the engine. Nothing, save perhaps a Lamborghini, sounds anywhere near as good a Ferrari V12.
As you can tell, im pretty taken with this idea. Anyone want to go thirds on a Ferrari? Let me know if you’re interested (and have a large garage), I’ve measured mine and it won’t fit!
