Dear Waseem

Treat yourself to a stunning evening of movement and music with two outstanding dance companies. Rambert Dance Company are at the Festival Theatre, Edinburgh from November 7 – 9, followed by Richard Alston on November 13. Full details below and online at www.eft.co.uk

Rambert Dance Company

Rambert Dance Company is Britain’s flagship modern dance company, committed to presenting a programme of works by choreographers from around the world. This forthcoming programme contains four pieces - all seen in Edinburgh for the first time and accompanied by Rambert's Associate Orchestra, London Musici

Stylish American choreographer Karole Armitage creates the luminous Gran Partita, set to four movements from Mozart’s exceptional piece of the same name.

Christopher Bruce's classic Swansong makes a triumphant return to the company’s repertoire. A depiction of a prisoner being interrogated by two guards, the piece has been acclaimed as a modern masterpiece. The result is a fascinating fusion of contemporary dance, tap and music hall routines.

Australian choreographer Garry Stewart’s high energy new work ‘Infinity’ pits the dancers against each other in an avalanche of striking imagery. Garry’s company, Australian Dance Theatre, appeared at the Festival Theatre earlier this year with their breathtakingly athletic production ‘Held’.

The fourth piece is a new work – L’Eveil – by Rambert dancer Melanie Teall and represents Rambert’s ethos for developing new choreographic talent from within the company.

Richard Alston Dance Company

Fingerprint, Alston’s brand-new piece, tells of sadness, humour and wit and is choreographed to sublime keyboard pieces by Bach, including Capriccio (played live onstage).

Choreographer and Company dancer Martin Lawrance presents the second new work, Brink. Inspired by Japanese tango, this piece is set against a backdrop of atmospheric accordion music.

Also included in the programme is the gritty Gypsy Mixture. This Balkan infused piece captures the passion and rhythm of flamenco, danced to a beat of remixed gypsy music.

Richard Alston will be chairing a FREE pre-show talk at 6.30pm, offering an insight into the inspiration, ideas and themes behind the evening’s performances.
